LOS TRICLINIA TRÍABSIDADOS EN LA PARS OCCIDENTALIS DEL IMPERIO

Summary:
In the Roman villa in Noheda there are many structures that have been excavated, but the most distinguished is the so-called tri-apsidal room, with its 290.64 m² and its complex archeological articulation, to which one can add its carefully crafted decoration, composed of extraordinary figurative mosaics, a skirting board made out of imported marble, attractive painted murals, and exceptional sculptures.
The square morphology of this room with exedras on three of its sides, allow us to ascribe this room to the triconch room category, which were quite common in the most luxurious residential complexes in the Late Roman period. There are rooms with a trichora articulation that can be interpreted as triclinia, thus adapting the architectural forms to the new tendencies in the spatial organization.

Na villa romana de Noheda (Villar de Domingo García, Cuenca), são várias as estruturas exumadas, mas destaca-se a denominada Sala de Tripla Abside, de dimensões imponentes - 290,64m2 - e uma complexa articulação arquitectónica, à qual se soma uma cuidada ornamentação, composta por extraordinários mosaicos figurativos, rodapés de mármores importados, vistosas pinturas murais e um excepcional conjunto escultórico distribuído por toda a sala.
A morfologia quadrangular deste ambiente com exedras em três dos seus lados, bem como as suas extraordinárias medidas, permitem inclui-la na categoria de salas triabsidadas que se tornam frequentes nos mais luxuosos conjuntos residenciais em época tardo-romana. Tratam-se de dependências de articulação trichora que se interpretam como triclinia, adaptando assim as formas arquitectónicas às novas tendências na organização espacial dos banquetes em stibadia.
