E quando as fábricas fecham?

Reflexões sobre a salvaguarda do património arqueológico-industrial na cidade de Portalegre

Resumo

Em tempos conhecida como a Capital Industrial do Alentejo, Portalegre não foi imune ao processo de desindustrialização. Assim, coloca-se uma grande questão, o que fazer às antigas fábricas entretanto encerradas definitivamente?
Quando falamos da salvaguarda de património arqueológico-industrial não podemos esquecer que este apresenta características muito próprias, que dificultam a tarefa.
No caso de Portalegre a memória da indústria insiste em não desaparecer. Apesar das várias indústrias que aqui existiram, destacam-se os lanifícios e a cortiça.
Sabemos que é impossível preservar tudo, mas não deveria ao menos ser estudado? Ser alvo de trabalhos arqueológicos aquando das intervenções?
O que pretendemos é analisar algumas problemáticas associadas à salvaguarda do património arqueológico-industrial na cidade de Portalegre.

Once known as Alentejo’s Industrial Capital, Portalegre wasn’t immune to deindustrialization process. So, a big question comes up, what to do with the old factories shut permanently?
When we talk about industrial heritage safeguard, we can’t forget that it has specific caracteristics, that make this task difficult.
