Abstract

Pedro de Roure Pietra (1815-1874) and José Vieira da Silva Guimarães (1864-1939), dedicate themselves to the study of the origins of Tomar, having carried out excavations in the region and contacted scholars of his time. Although they are two archaeologists from two distinct periods from the beginnings of archeo- logy in Portugal, we consider it of interest to study the interaction between both, possible inuences and respective actions in safeguarding Tomar's cultural heritage. It is crucial to study the contribution of these archaeologists to the valorization of cultural heritage, to know the people who accompany them in their intentions, as well as to understand the importance of their work for the unfolding of local events, archaeological ndings and dynamics of the present and future of the territory.
