Abstract

Carmen Balesteros (1961-2013) was a teacher, professor, researcher and archaeologist, focusing her research on Jewish Studies. Dwelling on the material traces of sefardi Jews in Portugal and the Spanish frontier, Balesteros aimed to conceptualize an archaeology that was specifically Jewish in a Portuguese contexto and in na Iberian scale. A decade after her passing, this text intends to ascertain her contribute and scientific legacy, framing it in the advent of an archaeology particularly dedicated to Jewish materialities and in the present-day concerns of this area of studies.
