Abstract

Urban Archaeology presents very specific problems and difficulties due to the nature of formation and alteration of archaeological contexts, but, also, inherent to the archaeological work itself.

One of the main problems we point out is - besides the working conditions given to many of our peers - the time for the execution of the works, imposed by civil engineering companies, which meet tight deadlines and require the archaeological interventions even more promptly. The need to preserve the vestiges through registration, and the finds through study.

In this paper we try to approach several problems, from the licensing to the excavation, taking for example the excavation recently carried out in the context of a work of renovation of the roofs of the Colégio do Espírito Santo Building (University of Évora). We also present the results obtained through the analysis of the collected remains and the identified stratigraphy.
